I'm the Jürgen Klopp of God of War Ragnarök, and they're all players out on the field actually doing the work. But the critical part of being able to have a clear vision is to be able to have these constant check-ins. It was a unique challenge for me, to not meddle or interfere. Probably to the point where feelings do get hurt.ĬB: The only reason things worked for me is that people were hands-off, and I wanted to do the same for Eric. We were very honest in the approach and I think that's always been our thing. I have no sense whatsoever of anything creative. I'm the college dropout that didn't finish my science majors and has an engineering brain. He's really creative he's like the child actor, the animator, the storyteller. We've always been like two sides of a coin. The game is very much about growth, and I’m wondering how your relationship has changed?ĮW: I don't think our working relationship has changed at all. And I accept that.ĮW: Your animation skills were quite rusty, my design skills are still pretty sharp. And he was not good at what he was doing.ĬB: I knew I was setting you up for the fact that, yes, I was not very good at it anymore. And it was Eric who was the person yelling at me to stop animating and doing things in the game.ĮW: Here's the difference, though. I think I have probably played the game ten times since April, all the way through, and on every different setting we have.ĬB: I would like to point out that when I directed God of War 2, way back in the 1800s, I did a similar thing. I was like, “Oh man we forgot to put this glow on Freya's sword during all these scenes.” I had to like, be kind of cognisant that I'm not just the person on the team making stuff anymore. I'm still terrible and get into the engine. Was it the same for you?ĮW: I mean, it is and it isn't. CB: I don't know if Eric went through the same thing, but there's this period of time at the end, where the temptation is for people to kick you out of the office, because all you're gonna do is cause problems by saying, “Cut this, try that.” You gotta leave it in the hands of people who are actually making sure it all connects properly and ironing out the bugs.
